About Programs

  • The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 2002 and to produce competent engineers in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • The Department offers postgraduate degree programme M.E. Structural Engineering from the academic year 2013-2014 and M.E. Construction Engineering and Management from the academic year 2014-2015.
  • The Civil Engineering Department has been recognized as a Collaborative Research Centre by Anna University, Chennai.
  • The Department of Civil Engineering helps students learn advanced skills and builds their confidence to handle real-time engineering problems. It also gives them a good space to develop both their thinking and practical abilities.
  • Department is well equipped with laboratories with the state-of-the-art facilities to meet the curriculum requirement in making the student industry-ready.
  • The Department offers strong academic exposure through effective teaching and learning, and provides real industrial experience through internships.
  • It maintains a sincere academic focus and encourages original thinking that leads to creative and innovative ideas.
  • All students are shaped through an Outcome-Based Teaching–Learning (OBTL) approach.
  • The Department has signed MoUs with leading core industries to provide better industrial exposure for both students and faculty members.
  • The only College is established Centre of Excellence in Formwork Engineering in association esteemed organization L&T Construction Buildings and Factories and Department in the year of 2017.

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Credentials of the Department

  • The Civil Engineering Department has been recognized as a Collaborative Research Centre by Anna University, Chennai. Seven Scholars are completed and 13 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D degree under our Research Centre.
  • The only College is established Centre of Excellence in Formwork Engineering in association esteemed organization L&T Construction Buildings and Factories and Department in the year of 2017. More than 70 students are placed in L&T Construction throughout India.
  • Most of the faculty members and students are members in various professional bodies like ISTE, IE(I), ICI and ASCE etc., and are actively participating in the activities of those professional bodies. Our Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student’s chapter has received the Best Outstanding Students Chapter award from ICI Salem Centre and ASCE. And also students received various award for best thesis, young engineer award, Dr.APJ award from IEI, ICI, ISTE etc.
  • The faculty members received research funding from UGC, AICTE, ANRF, Anna University and MSME New Delhi.
  • Received a funded project of Rs. 2.88 lakhs from AICTE–UGC for the Minor Research Project titled “Quantum Leap in Low Cost Construction.”
  • Received an STTP grant of Rs. 4,00,000 from AICTE for the program titled “Low Carbon Energy Buildings.”
  • Received a seminar grant of Rs. 1,50,000 from ANRF for the program titled “AI-driven Innovations in Civil Engineering: Enhancing Energy Efficiency, Sustainability, and Safety Standards.”
  • Faculty Members and students have appeared for more than 120 NPTEL online certification examinations.
  • Our faculty members secured Domain and Discipline stars from NPTEL Swayam. And also received topper, Gold, Silver and Elite with various NPTEL Domains.
  • The Department has excellent and consistent placement record and most of the eligible students are placed in reputed organizations. Our students got placed in various Government Departments like TRB, JE, Draftsman, Forest Officer, PC domains.
  • Faculty Members have published more than 200 technical research papers in reputed International/National Journals and International Conferences. The department generates funds from consultancy activities.
  • Faculty members actively participate in international and national webinars, seminars, and workshops to enhance their technical knowledge and cognitive skills.   • Mahendra Engineering College has Signed MoU with Larsen & Toubro EduTech 19th September 2022. L&T is developing a solution to bridge the industry-academia gaps in present day curricula for making it more application oriented, and in tune with future skills. Mahendra Engineering College and Larsen & Toubro EduTech signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 12.05.2022 in the presence of Mrs.M.F Febin, Head-College Connect and team at Mahendra Engineering College. INDUSTRIAL VISIT

Our Civil Engineering students and faculty members have visited Athikadavu site on 2nd February, 2023. Students visited to pump houses and Athikadavu-Avinashi Linear Project. The students learned about the irrigation of surplus water from Bhavani river and its distribution through pipelines to ponds and lakes of nearby districts. The visit enchaned the students skills in water resource management. The students learned the recent techniques during visit.

FACULTY IMMERSION PROGRAM (FIP):

The faculty immersion program was conducted by L&T-Edutech from 29.06.2023 to 03.06.2023 at L&T HQ- Chennai. From our institution six faculty members participated in the program. The primary objective of the program was to empower faculty participants with unique skill sets and specialized knowledge that are directly applicable in the industry. The faculty members had great experience at mega site visits; they learned the design thinking approach to complex solving problem and also acquire insights on recent developments in various core domains.

The faculty development program was conducted by L&T-Edutech on “Emerging Trends in Construction” from 28.09.2022 and 29.09.2022 at L&T HQ- Chennai. The FDP enriches the skill set on Digital Substation Concepts and its implementations, Evolving Technologies for Industry 5.0, Introduction to Industry Led Courses and also they learned about the Modern Trends in Renewable Energy and Energy Storage.
